WHAT IS DBC?
DBC - Documentation Based Care - is an evidence based Finnish Physiotherapy and Active Rehabilitation protocol that concerntrates on neck, shoulder, lower back and knee problems.

A decade ago, bed rest was recommended as standard treatment, whereas now, an active approach is known to be more effective. DBC works on the concept of Active Muscle reconditioning programme.

The DBC concepts are recognized by medical doctors, specialists, insurance companies arond the world. DBC clinics are located all over Europe, the United States, Middle East, South Africa and Asia Pacific regions.

HOW CAN DBC EXERCISES IMPROVE THE CONDITION?
Muscles are the primary line of defense against trauma and overstraining of the ligaments, joints and other soft structures. Activation and reconditioning of the muscles will improve movement controls and co-ordination. Scientific Clinical studies show convincing evidence for the effect of exercises in reducing pain and normalizing function. The DBC treatment concept differs from conventional physiotherapy exercises. DBC programme also addresses other clinical elements like endurance, core stability, co-ordination an dbalance control. The is essential for achieving the ultimate goal of freedom from pain and improved function.

HOW LONG IS THE DBC PROGRAMME AND WHAT IS DURATION OF EVERY SESSION?
For chronic neck, lower back and shoulder problems, a minimum of 15 sessions of exercise programme is recommended. For knee rehabilitation, a range of 15-30 sessions depending on the patient's category. All these exercise programmes start with a baseline physical examination and ends with outcome physical examination.

For acute neck, lower back and shoulder problems, modified DBC programme can be used as 6 / 12 / sessions of exercises, based on doctor's prescription.

WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF RECOVERY?
Randomized controlled clinical trials and day-to-day treatment results obtained from DBC clinics in different countries show that pain reduction and improved function is consistently achieved in 75 - 80% of the cases.

HOW DO I CONTINUE AFTER THE PROGRAMME?
After the first course of treatment, based on the level of improvement and together with the physiotherapist, you can decide either to continue on a second DBC course, start a maintenance programme or follow a home exercise programme in order to maintain the results. You will also be given advice on other activities or sports in terms of their suitability for your condition and the possibility of individual modifications.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DBC PROGRAMME AND NORMAL PHYSIOTHERAPY?
Unlike generic physiotherapy methods (Utrasound, electrotherapy, massage, heat or cold, etc) that may reduce the symptoms for a while, the benefits obtainsed from the DBC programme are fundamental and long-lasting. The pre and post assessment in DBC will cover the measurement for the range of motion in degrees. Electromyography (EMG) as a muscle monitor device to measure muscles activities and phychological profiles. Studies have shown that more than two years after completion of the programme, 80% of individuals who remained active after the programme, were not limited by pain in their daily activities or at work.
